The deadline that governs your calendar

FIRE is retiring. IRIS is not FIRE with a new name.

After December 31, 2026, the legacy FIRE system stops accepting returns. IRIS changes the file format, the credential, and the onboarding — three things experienced filers assume will carry over, and none of them do.

The file format changes

FIRE accepts position-based fixed-width text. IRIS expects self-describing XML (A2A) or its CSV template — your old flat file will not validate as-is.

The credential does not transfer

Your FIRE TCC is not an IRIS TCC. A fresh IR Application means ID.me verification plus a suitability review of at least 45 business days.

The runway is longer than the deadline

Count backward from when you must start, not forward from January 31. ID.me, the application, and review can stretch to two–four months.

How it works

From your files to IRS-accepted in four steps

1
Import or connect

Sync your accounting stack, upload your FIRE file or the IRIS CSV, or push records through the API.

2
Validate

Real-time TIN matching plus the full IRIS business-rule catalog catch errors before you transmit.

3
e-File to IRS

We transmit through IRIS A2A under our TCC and set CF/SF on the first submission. You get a Receipt ID.

4
Deliver copies

Recipient copies go out by secure eDelivery or USPS print-and-mail — and stay archived for four years.

Everything in one platform

A complete information-return workflow

Validate, e-file, correct, and deliver — without stitching together a flat-file tool, a TIN checker, and a mail house.

Direct IRIS A2A e-file

System-to-system transmission under our IRS-approved TCC, with structured acknowledgments back.

Real-time TIN matching

Names and TINs are checked against the IRS database before filing to stop B-notice rejects.

W-9 collection

Request, collect, and store vendor W-9s, then pull the data straight into your filings.

State filing & CF/SF

Combined Federal/State Filing is set on the first submission across 33 states and DC.

One-click corrections

Structured one-step corrections and voids that reference the original submission — no re-keying.

eDelivery + print & mail

Recipients self-serve copies in a secure portal, with print-ready USPS Copy B for mailing.

Bulk CSV import

Import high volume by CSV with per-row validation, duplicate handling, and USPS address checks.

Bank-grade security

256-bit encryption in transit and at rest, MFA, and a tamper-evident audit trail on every action.

Built for clean filings

Catch every error before the IRS does

Every record is checked against the IRIS business-rule catalog and matched against the IRS TIN database before transmission — so rejections get fixed at your desk, not in an acknowledgment file.

TIN matching — every name/TIN pair verified against the IRS file before transmission.
Business-rule checks — the same catalog IRIS validates against, run at your desk.
Format conversion — FIRE fixed-width fields mapped to validated IRIS XML automatically.
Pre-flight summary — a clear go/no-go on every batch before a single record is sent.

What teams say after their first season

“We file for 90+ clients. e1099f converted our FIRE exports and had us transmitting through IRIS the same afternoon — the 45-day TCC wait would have cost us the season.”

RK
Rachel Kim, CPA
Partner, Brightline Accounting

“TIN matching alone paid for itself. We caught 14 mismatches before filing that would have been B-notices and penalties later.”

MT
Marcus Tran
Controller, Northwind Logistics

“The API dropped into our payroll product in a week. Idempotent batches and webhook acknowledgments made it genuinely production-grade.”

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own IRIS TCC to file with e1099f?

No. e1099f transmits under its own IRS-approved IRIS TCC, so you can file immediately without applying for one or waiting through the 45-business-day suitability review.

Can I keep using the FIRE files I already produce?

Yes. Upload your existing fixed-width FIRE files and we map them to validated IRIS XML automatically — it is a field-mapping step, not a re-keying one.

Which forms can I file?

The full 1099 series plus 1098, 5498, 1042-S, W-2G and 3921/3922 through IRIS — originals and corrections, with Combined Federal/State Filing where eligible. W-2 filing to the SSA is coming soon.

How does pricing work?

You pay per form, and the rate drops as volume grows — from $2.99 down to $0.59 per form. Federal e-file and eDelivery are included on every plan; TIN matching is included on Pro and available as an add-on.

Is state filing supported?

Yes. We support Combined Federal/State Filing across 33 states and DC, set on the first submission for each payer as IRIS requires.

How are recipient copies delivered?

Recipients can self-serve copies through a secure portal (eDelivery), with print-ready USPS Copy B for mailing.

How long do you retain my filings?

Filed returns, acknowledgments, and recipient copies are retained securely for four years and are exportable at any time.

Is e1099f secure and compliant?

Yes — 256-bit encryption, MFA, tenant isolation, tokenized TINs, and a tamper-evident audit trail. e1099f is an IRS-authorized e-file provider.
